Winter Solstice 2022 - Embracing the fertile darkness

Yesterday was the longest night and shortest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere, and it seems as if it is nature's way of reminding us all to slow down during what feels like the busiest time of the year.

Most of us are running around town from one holiday engagement to the other, spending more time than our norm on the internet or in malls looking for the perfect gifts, and doing our best to make time for family visits amidst it all (which can bring about it's own set of challenges or blessings).

The Winter Solstice reminds us to interrupt all of the doing and reconnect with our being. We can give ourselves permission to let go of trying to get it all perfect and instead make space for ourselves to hear the whispers from the heart.

Once we hear those whispers, we let those seeds germinate in the fertile darkness and invite it to continue sprouting.

For additional support in embracing the dark with balance and welcoming in the light, you can use the below worksheet which is an abbreviated version of the Winter Solstice event we had at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden last night. For a little extra encouragement, you can light your favorite candle, prepare a comforting cup of tea, or surround yourself with pillows and blankets that allow you to feel easeful.

"May you have a peaceful heart, amidst it all.

May you see the arising and passing of all things with compassion and equanimity."
